Is it urgent, or can it wait for a survey?
Water running through a ceiling needs attention, as do tiles or slates lost in wind, a flat-roof edge lifting away, lead pulled back from a junction, or a chimney that appears unstable. Keep clear of anything hanging loose; checking it yourself from a ladder is not the next step.
Moss, general ageing and an unchanged dry stain are reasons to book a free roof survey, rather than describe the roof as an emergency. If you cannot tell whether a mark is fresh, explain that when you call.
What happens when you call
For urgent roof repairs: call us on 07840 996627, Monday to Friday 8am–6pm. We talk through the signs you have noticed and aim to attend the same or next working day for active leaks, weather permitting. Tell us whether water is still entering and whether anything has moved or fallen.
At the visit, making the roof safe takes priority. Temporary covering is an option when the permanent repair cannot be carried out that day. Investigation follows the route of the water back to its entry point: the patch on the ceiling alone does not identify the fault above it.
A photo report is supplied as standard. Before permanent work, you receive a fixed written price explaining the repair. The site is left tidy. Making safe and completing the lasting repair are separate decisions, even when both can be dealt with during the visit.
Urgent repairs by roof type
On pitched slate and tile roofs, displaced coverings and loose ridge bedding need the surrounding fixings checked as well as the obvious gap. Ridge re-bedding and repointing address the mortar work where that is the source of trouble. Where the ridge and verge mortar has crumbled across a whole roof, planned roof repointing is usually the better next step than a string of urgent visits.
For GRP, liquid and felt coverings, a leak may begin at an edge, junction or outlet rather than across the main surface. Our flat roof repair page explains how the condition of those details affects the choice of repair.
A suspect stack needs its masonry considered alongside the weathering around it. See chimney repairs for pointing and related work; keep away from the space beneath visibly loose material.
Lead peeled from a wall junction and defects in the channel between roof slopes allow rain past the covering. We handle lead flashing replacement and roof valley repairs; the fault must be traced before deciding which detail needs attention.
Water spilling at the roofline can resemble a roof-covering leak indoors. Gutters, fascias and soffits should therefore be part of the assessment, not treated as an unrelated issue.
For business premises, tell us where damage is visible. Our commercial roofing work includes repairs, separating initial protection from the permanent job.
Storm damage and insurance
For insurance-related repairs, a written report and photographs are supplied as standard. These document the roof condition and the work identified; they are not a decision about your policy. The storm damage roof guide and roof insurance claims guide provide further reading.
Areas we cover for urgent repairs
We cover Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and County Durham. Our live area pages include Newcastle, Sunderland, Gateshead, South Shields, Whitley Bay, Wallsend, Houghton-le-Spring and Birtley.
See areas we cover and give your address when enquiring.
What we see most across the region
Coastal towns (Sunderland, South Shields, Whitley Bay, Blyth, Seaham): corroded mild-steel fixings letting slates slip in sequence, and oxidised lead flashings around bays and chimneys. Inland towns (Houghton, Chester-le-Street, Washington): frost-cracked ridge mortar and blocked autumn valleys. Across the lot: ridges that were last bedded in the 80s and 90s and have now reached the end of their life.

Call 07840 996627 · Monday to Friday 8am–6pmRoof repairs (North East) FAQs
How fast can you attend a leak?+
Usually same or next day across our normal patch — Newcastle, Sunderland, Gateshead, Washington, the Shields and surrounding. Further afield depends on day.
Will you patch up just to make it stop?+
If a proper repair isn't possible same-day, we'll temporary-cover to stop further damage and book the proper fix as soon as we can.
Can you produce a report for my insurer?+
Yes — written report and photographs supplied as standard for any insurance-related repair.
Do you offer a 24-hour emergency roofing service?+
Our lines are open Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm; we do not have confirmed cover outside those hours. Ring during opening hours for an urgent repair. Otherwise, send the quote form with your contact details and keep any photos ready to share; we come back to you when we open.
What counts as an urgent roof repair?+
Active water coming in, missing tiles or slates, or loose roof material that could fall should be raised as urgent. Other concerns can be booked for a survey to assess their condition.
What should I have ready when I call?+
Have the address, the roof type if you know it, where the water or damage shows and when it started. A photograph taken safely from the ground can help explain the problem without climbing up to inspect it.
