GRP Fibre Glass Roofing — North East
GRP (fibre glass) is our priority flat roof system. Laid wet, cured to a seamless finish, then trimmed and topcoated — it delivers a hard, rigid, fully bonded surface with no joints to fail and a properly attested 25+ year design life.
- Seamless single-surface finish — no joints
- Light foot traffic without damage
- Pre-formed trims and upstands engineered to match
- Manufacturer-backed systems and warranties
- Honest substrate prep — falls corrected, rotten ply replaced
- Tidy install with same crew start to finish
Why GRP is our priority system
GRP behaves like a one-piece tray over your deck. Once cured there's no membrane to lift, no seams to part, no laps to chase down. For garage roofs, single-storey extensions and small commercial decks across the North East it's typically the longest-lasting domestic-scale flat roof system we install.
The two things that decide a GRP roof's life: the substrate prep beneath it and the trim detail around the edge. Both are handled in-house — we won't subcontract either.
How much does a GRP flat roof cost?
Our guide figure for GRP is £90–£140/m² installed. Typical fibreglass garage roof costs are £1,200–£1,800 for a single garage and £1,800–£3,200 for a double. These are guide ranges, not a quote for an unseen roof.
Access, edge details and the condition of the deck affect the work needed. See garage roof replacement for the wider job, or compare EPDM rubber roofing before choosing a covering.
Can you torch felt over GRP?
No — these are different roofing systems. Strip the old covering and start on a sound deck rather than torching felt over fibreglass. If the surface is cracked or leaking, our flat roof repair service can assess whether a compatible repair is practical or the covering needs replacing.
GRP fibre glass FAQs
How much does GRP roofing cost?+
Our guide is £90–£140/m² installed. Typical GRP garage figures are £1,200–£1,800 for a single and £1,800–£3,200 for a double. A survey confirms the scope and written price.
Why is my fibreglass roof cracking?+
Usually movement in the deck or a rushed lay-up is involved. It needs a look: coating over a crack without checking the deck may leave the cause untouched.
What is a GRP roofing system?+
GRP is glass-reinforced plastic, formed wet on the deck using glass reinforcement and resin. It cures into a seamless covering with integral trims and a protective topcoat.
How long does a GRP roof last?+
A properly installed GRP roof has a design life of 25 years plus. Sound deck preparation, correct edge details and ongoing checks all matter.
How long does GRP last?+
25+ years design life on quality systems installed properly. The topcoat may need a refresh at 15–20 years to keep colour; the underlying laminate stays sound.
Can you walk on it?+
Yes — light, occasional foot traffic is fine. For frequent access (plant rooms, balconies) we'd add a wear coat or specify a heavier-duty system.
GRP vs single-ply on a commercial roof?+
On larger commercial areas (>200 m²) single-ply often wins on speed and access. For small commercial decks GRP is still very competitive.
