Liquid Roofing in Newcastle and the North East

Cold-applied liquid roofing is the right answer when GRP and EPDM aren't — complicated shapes, lots of upstands, multiple penetrations, awkward parapets, or commercial refurbs where you need to overcoat an old roof without stripping it.

  • PMMA and polyurethane (PU) systems
  • Cold-applied — no hot works on site
  • Wraps complex shapes, upstands and penetrations
  • Overlay existing roofs where the substrate is sound
  • Reinforced detail at high-risk junctions
  • Manufacturer-backed warranties on registered systems

Where liquid wins on real projects

Commercial refurb: a tired but sound flat deck on a retail unit, office or warehouse — strip-and-replace is expensive and disruptive. A reinforced liquid overlay can extend the roof's life by 20+ years at a fraction of the cost, with no hot works.

Awkward shapes: lots of pipes, soil stacks, rooflights or odd geometry where every junction is a potential failure point for a sheet system. Liquid wraps the lot continuously.

Domestic detail work: dormer tops with fiddly upstands, bay roofs, and porches where the covering has to turn up against brickwork and window frames. A cold-applied reinforced liquid handles those junctions without a flame near the house, which is why we often spec it for small, detail-heavy roofs.

What liquid waterproofing is

Liquid roofing, sometimes called liquid waterproofing or liquid plastic roofing, is a resin applied as a wet coat with a reinforcement fleece bedded into it. It cures into a single seamless membrane bonded to the surface beneath, running up walls, around pipes and over awkward corners without any joints.

That is the difference from a decorative roof coating or a tin of brush-on sealant. A proper system is built to a specified thickness with reinforcement throughout, and that is what gives it a long design life. As a guide, liquid systems are in the £100 to £160 per square metre range on our flat roof replacement cost guide.

Liquid roofing FAQs

What is liquid roofing?+

A cold-applied resin, reinforced with fleece, that cures into one seamless waterproof membrane. It suits roofs with lots of upstands, penetrations or awkward shapes. The liquid is applied wet and cures in place, so the waterproofing can follow corners and junctions rather than relying on separate sheets.

What is liquid plastic roofing?+

It is another name for liquid roofing systems based on resins such as PMMA or PU. They are applied wet and cure in place, rather than being laid as sheets.

How long does liquid last?+

Quality PMMA and PU systems have a 20–25 year design life when installed to spec — the detailing at upstands and penetrations is what fails first, not the coating itself.

Can you overlay an existing roof?+

Often yes — provided the substrate is sound, dry and clean. Saves the cost and disruption of a full strip. We'll be honest if it isn't suitable.

Is it the same as a 'pourable' patch?+

No. Consumer-grade pourable patch products are short-life repairs. We install registered commercial-grade liquid systems with reinforcement and warranties.

Can liquid roofing go over an existing flat roof?+

It depends on the condition of the deck and existing covering. An overlay needs a sound, dry, clean surface that is compatible with the chosen system. Loose covering, trapped moisture, damaged insulation or a soft deck need to be addressed first rather than sealed in. We check the roof before recommending an overlay or a strip-and-replace.
