Local Roofer in Whitley Bay

Most Whitley Bay homeowners we work with found us by word of mouth — a neighbour's re-roof, a quayside flat roof, a chimney rebuild that didn't leak again. Whitley Bay roofs work harder than most. Coastal villas and Monkseaton semis pick up salt corrosion that inland properties never see, so we always inspect lead detail first. We're regularly on roofs close to the A19, out around Whitley Road retail, through Monkseaton and Earsdon.

Why Whitley Bay specifically

Generous interwar semis through Monkseaton and Earsdon, plus a band of coastal Edwardian villas facing the seafront. Direct exposure to the North Sea means rapid lead and zinc oxidation — flashings rarely survive past 20 years here without inspection.

How we quote

We attend in person, get on the roof, and itemise the quote in writing. No high-pressure sales, no '£200 today only' tricks, no surveyor fee.

Roof types we see most in Whitley Bay

Clay pantile and slate on the period stock, concrete tile on the interwar and later semis, and an unusual concentration of bay roofs, turrets, flat topped dormers and small lead covered features. Rear extension flat roofs are everywhere and are the most common single source of the leaks we attend here.

Weather and exposure here

Full onshore exposure. Salt corrodes fixings and gutter ironwork, easterly gales lift verges and ridges that were bedded in mortar, and driving rain gets in behind any flashing with a tired chase. This is the part of the coast where mechanical fixing and non ferrous ironmongery earn their money.

Housing stock in Whitley Bay

Substantial Edwardian and interwar housing runs back from the seafront, with large semis and detached property around Monkseaton and the Broadway, terraced streets closer to the centre, and a strong stock of converted flats and small hotels along the front itself.

Streets, access and getting to you

Seafront work is weather dependent and we programme it that way rather than promising a date we would have to break. Behind the front, the streets are wide enough for scaffold and parking is manageable outside summer weekends. The Coast Road and the A19 are the routes in.

About us

Are you actually local?+

Yes — Sunderland-based, on-site across Whitley Bay most weeks. Not a national franchise.

Do you charge for quotes?+

No. Survey and written quote are free with no obligation.

Can you do everything in-house?+

Yes — flat, pitched, repair, lead, scaffold liaison, commercial. We don't subcontract the trade.

Why does a coastal roof fail faster than an inland one?+

Two reasons that compound. Salt attacks the metal parts, so nails, clips and brackets go first, and wind uplift finds anything that is no longer held down. The covering itself is often fine when the fixings have finished.

Are lead bay and dormer roofs worth keeping?+

If the lead is sound and correctly sized, absolutely, it will outlast most alternatives. Where it has been laid in over long sheets it fatigues and splits, and the fix is to re-form it in properly sized bays rather than patch it.

How quickly can you get to a leak in Whitley Bay?+

We aim to attend leaks and make safes the same or next working day, Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm. We stop the water first, then quote the permanent repair once we have photographed what caused it. Call 07840 996627.

Is the survey really free in Whitley Bay?+

Yes, for homeowners, landlords and businesses across NE25, NE26. We get to roof level, photograph the condition and email a written quote. If your roof does not need work yet, we will say so in writing.
