How Long Does a Slate Roof Last?
Natural Welsh slate: 80–100 years. Spanish slate: 50–80 years. Synthetic slate: 30–50 years. The slate usually outlasts the fixings — most 'failed slate roofs' are actually nail-sick: original slate, perished nails.
Why this matters
Most roof failures we attend could have been avoided by acting on the warning signs six months earlier. The cost of acting early is usually 10–20% of the cost of acting after the leak.
